Day 5 of the race was spent in beautiful Sinks Canyon just outside of Lander, Wyoming. The race has been held on South Pass the last couple years because of the lack of snow in Sinks Canyon but the large amount of snowfall this year has made it possible for the mushers to return once again to Sinks Canyon.

Musher’s met with community members at a Meet and Greet event in downtown Lander. Mushers had the chance to introduce the dogs, talk about the race, and give tours of their trucks.

Today’s 35 mile trail takes musher up and back down the steep switch backs. This is a beautiful run with some amazing views. There was a large crowd at the start of the race cheering the mushers out! The snow was deep and the kids took advantage of some play time. We were joined by Mrs. Brower’s 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students from St. Stephen’s School.

Check out what today’s winner Lina Streeper had to say about today’s run. Tomorrow is a rest day for the racers and muhers. Check back on Friday to hear about Leg 7 in Driggs, Idaho.
