Breeze Blog: Which musher to track?Hi kids! So there's lots of talk in classrooms about what musher to track during the race. Some mushers have signed up to run 8 dogs (for 2 days) or 12 dogs (for 7 days). What's best for you?
For mushers just getting into the sport, running a large team of 12 dogs over 7 days can be overwhelming and impossible if they are just beginners. So, we leave the big 12 dog race to the professionals and the upper grades (3rd - 5th). The 8 dog (2 day race) is still challenging, but within a beginning racer's reach with a well-trained and conditioned team. 8 dog mushers are perfect for Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade students.
Check the musher profiles on this website, by clicking on the "More" tab, then click on "Mushers". Choose a musher that interests you. Maybe you share the same name? Maybe they are from your hometown? Maybe they won last year? Maybe you want to track a rookie (a musher who has not competed in this race before). Whomever you choose, track them with the musher tracking sheet, each day of the race. You can find this sheer under Classroom Lessons.
